While we continue mourn the tragedy of COVID-19 in our world, we are in a place right now, where we have tangible hope that the pandemic is starting to ease, we are still not in a place where we can stop being vigilant about the safety of our parish and parishioners. For this reason, there are some upcoming things that will still not quite happen as they would in a normal year.
First of all, our social distanced seating (with limitations on attendance), hand hygiene, and mask wearing will continue until the risk of community spread of the virus has significantly abated (we will continue to follow diocesan guidelines on this matter)
On Tuesday, February 2 at the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, we will not bless candles in the gathering space prior to Mass or process in with them. The candle baskets that we typically bless will be in the sanctuary and blessed there and our used candles will not be available to be taken home. If you bring candles of your own, please keep them with you and they will be included in the general blessing at the Mass.
Wednesday, February 3 is the Memorial of St. Blaise, and is a day in which throats are traditionally blessed. The individual blessing requires physical contact and the praying of a formula. This is not prudent at this time. There is an option in the Roman Missal for offering the blessing in a general way to all those who are present, so at the end of Masses, the priest will offer this blessing to all in attendance from the altar. We will offer this general blessing at the weekend Masses on February 6-7 as well. THERE WILL BE NO INDIVIDUAL BLESSINGS.
Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent will be on February 17th. There will be adjustments to how we celebrate this season as well, which will be noted as we get closer to those dates.
