The Legion of Mary was established in Dublin, Ireland in 1921 and is an apostolic work devoted to evangelization through personal contact. The founder, Servant of God Frank Duff, was a lifelong member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which assists in taking care of the needs for the physical body. The Legion was formed through the Holy Spirit’s revelation after Frank Duff made the St. Louis Marie de Montfort Consecration several times.
The Legion of Mary is Our Lady’s Army formed to fight a spiritual battle in the souls of humanity. They have a structured weekly meeting in which they pray the Rosary and Legion Prayers, discuss a spiritual reading from the Handbook, and report on assigned work. The meetings are no longer than 1 to 1½ hours.
Each member receives a "weekly work" assigned by the President. The work could be home and nursing home visits, Religious Education, Junior Praesidium (the Legion of Mary for children), visiting the sick, Enthronement and Blessing of the Home to the Sacred Heart Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary and any spiritual contact the pastor would entrust to the praesidium. Our Lady welcomes you in Her invitation to join Her Army in the Legion of Mary! Contact Geraldine McSorley at 609-587-4427 for more information.
Our Lord responded to St. Teresa of Avila after she was complaining in her prayers about all she had to do: “I will take care of your work if you take care of mine”. We are all very active, busy people in the Legion of Mary, and we are all totally aware and confident that in doing Our Lady’s work. She is perfectly taking care of us and ours. We repeat these words of St. Louis Marie de Montfort at our Annual Acies (yearly Mass Consecration and potluck dinner for the Comitium) “Totus tuus ego sum, et omnia mea tua sunt.” (“I am all yours, and all that is mine is yours.”)
