Our Filipino community would like to invite everybody to our 7th annual “Simbang Gabi” mass here at St. Gregory the Great on Dec 18th at 7:00pm. Our celebrant will be Father Ian Trammell and our Deacon will be Joe Latini. “Simbang Gabi” or Misa De Gallo is a 9-day celebration before Christmas and the tradition has deep roots in the Filipino religious culture. It was called “midnight mass” or “mass of the rooster” and comes from the Catholic custom of gathering for the celebration of the Eucharist in the pre-dawn hours of each of the 9 days prior to Christmas. Over the generations, local Filipino communities have creatively adapted the Simbang Gabi Mass in order to accommodate the needs of people’s work schedules. The other churches involved are:
