Youth Ministry Coordinator (Part-time)
Summary:
The Youth Ministry Coordinator is a highly self-motivated, organized and energetic individual who coordinates and maintains a parish outreach to our youth. This person works to help young people in our parish to be disciples of Jesus Christ and to form them in knowledge of, and love for, Christ and His Church. He/she ‘connects’ young people to Jesus Christ and the Church and guides them on their faith journeys. He/she draws young people into responsive participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic Church and in our parish, and fosters in them personal and spiritual growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and leads the GYM youth group that meets weekly. Runs meetings.
- Forms youth in four areas primarily: spiritual, intellectual, charitable outreach, and social life.
- Develops, recruits, trains, and is a leader of a core team of adults who are active members of the Catholic Church and who act as his/her advisory board. This includes compliance with and maintenance of Diocesan Child Protection policies/requirements.
- Ensures adult representation at all GYM events.
- Involves youth in service and outreach opportunities in the parish and community. Runs 1-3 mission trips per year. (Trips could be local community outreach and/or overnight experiences)
- Implements the U.S.C.C.B. document, Renewing the Vision and Son and Daughters of the Light, using the eight components and goals in the ministry of teens as a true vision of faith formation.
- Integrates youth into all aspects of parish life. Collaborates with all other youth serving ministries at the parish. Is a member of the parish youth council, which meets monthly.
- Develops a 3 year strategy for youth ministry at our parish
- Carries out fund raising efforts to support activities of youth ministries (instead of “group”)
- Maintain a flexible work schedule that includes evenings and weekends on occasion
- Collaborates with diocesan office of youth ministry. Participates in training programs coordinated through the Diocese of Trenton. Attends Cohort-wide, county-wide and diocesan-wide youth meetings as scheduled. Collaborates and coordinates with other youth group leaders in our Cohort.
- Participates in the annual Ministry Summit at St. Gregory the Great.
- Ensures that persons with disabilities are “integrated into ordinary catechetical programs such as youth ministry as much as possible (National Directory for Catechesis 207).
- Designs and maintains a filing and record keeping system for GYM and develops and maintains a database such as membership list, resource materials, etc.
Job Qualifications:
Required:
- Fully initiated and active member of the Roman Catholic Church
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of and commitment to the teachings, beliefs, and life of the Roman Catholic Church
- Willing to study for a youth ministry certificate.
- Dedicated to personal ongoing formation and spiritual life.
- Has a desire and passion to work with and for our youth.
- Ability to prepare and maintain a budget
- Possesses leadership, team-building and collaborative inter-personal skills with an ability to connect and interact with today’s youth.
- Good oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and organization skills, ability to organize events.
- Skilled in different techniques of leadership development i.e., consensus, decision-making, conflict resolution, group dynamics and facilitation.
- Self-driven and motivated; ability to motivate and lead by example.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree and has already completed a youth ministry certificate or equivalent.
- Previous experience of 3 or more years as a youth minister working with teenagers.
